2008 Maybach 57 Features Revealed

DaimlerChrysler revealed the Maybach 57 S at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. The North American unveiling was at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006.

It is a four-door sedan with rear-wheel drive. It comes in two trims: base and S. The base model is equipped with a 6.0 -liter V12 engine capable of 550 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. The S model, introduced last year, is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine, capable of 612 horsepower and 738 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s a lot of power but it still got its increase in horsepower for the year 2008.

Exterior features of the 57 S include 20-inch spoked wheels, single tone paint in black or silver, modified rear apron, trapezoidal tailpipes. The body’s paint finish comes in 17 color choices, which you can combine with the different wheel color tone according to your choice.

Reviewers are impressed with the Maybach 57's refined interior appointments. Standard interior features include a DVD player, TV receiver, a refrigerated compartment, a cordless phone system, distronic radar-based active cruise control, keyless-go, and ventilated seats.

Latest automobile technologies were mostly installed in this new Maybach including features from parent company Mercedes Benz. These are: electrohydraulic braking system Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC), Linguitronic voice control, operating and display system Command APS, and the automatic emergency call system.

Safety features include a total of ten airbags, automatic comfort-fit three point seat belts, high performance belt tensioners and belt force limiter and a SBC braking system with a total of eight braking circuits.

"Travel experts predict economic uncertainties and higher gasoline prices will translate into fewer motorists hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, a small reduction in holiday travelers won't translate into a significant drop in congestion. The 2008 forecast echoes those of previous years: Expect gridlock.

"A temporary dip in holiday drivers matters little when our transportation system is overworked and under-funded. One-third of our major roads are in poor or mediocre condition, 27 percent of the nation's bridges are either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, and use of public transportation is up, but investment is down. A report by the Transportation Research Board found a $50 billion annual gap in the funding needed to maintain the nation's highway and transit systems and a $100 billion funding shortfall to improve these systems. Combine a jump in traffic of 40 percent between 1990 and 2005 with a capacity increase of just two percent and the results are predictable. Nobody is going anywhere fast.

"Congestion, unfortunately, is not just a problem over holiday weekends. Congestion has become the monster that threatens our quality of life, our safety, the economy and the environment. Thirty-six percent of America's urban highways are congested. Congestion costs drivers $78 billion a year in wasted time and fuel costs. Americans spend 4.2 billion hours a year stuck in traffic, away from friends, family and community. While car engines are idling, they are polluting, spewing thousands of tons of carbon dioxide into the air every day.

AWEA Thanks Senate Financial Committee

The threat of global warming is very serious and it is a good thing that industries are taking the right attitude towards protecting the environment. Automakers have started producing fuel efficient vehicles which will reduce the consumption of non-renewable petroleum fuel and production of greenhouse gas which contributes heavily to global warming.

The American Wind Energy Association is one industry that is helping to promote the use of eco-friendly energy sources. Recently, the association thanked the Senate for extending the expiring tax credits for companies which are developing eco-friendly technologies.

According to The Auto Channel, the group issued a statement through AWAE Executive Director Randall Swisher. "The American Wind Energy Association, on behalf of our more than 1200 member companies, commends the Senate Finance Committee for including an extension of the expiring tax credits for wind, solar, and other renewable energy technologies as part of its economic stimulus package," reads the statement.

"The extension of the production tax credit (PTC) is urgently needed to protect tens of thousands of U.S. manufacturing and construction jobs and create tens of thousands more, and to keep investment flowing into one of the fastest-growing and brightest sectors of our economy: renewable electricity. Failure to extend the expiring renewable electricity credits would put 75,000 U.S. jobs at risk solely as a result of the decline in wind energy investment. Tens of thousands of additional jobs will be threatened because of similar slowdowns in the solar, geothermal and other renewable electricity industries," Swisher added further.

"We urge the full U.S. Senate to move quickly to adopt the Finance Committee stimulus package that includes the PTC extension. Rapid action is pivotal if wind, solar and other renewable energy industries are to continue to grow, attract large-scale manufacturing investment and create jobs for Americans across the country."

Hopefully, the AWEA will soon power all homes in the United States with clean energy.

Since the opening day of the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, all we did was drool over several stunning concept cars and new production vehicles unveiled by the world’s greatest automakers. It was indeed a crazy week!

The show was also highlighted by a number of awesome performances from popular artists and celebrities. But the main highlight of the show is the awarding of few of the most significant vehicles showcased in the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

One of the recognized vehicles is the 2009 Ford F-150. This radical and powerful ride won the “Most Significant" vehicle of this year's North American International Auto Show in downtown Detroit. AutoWeek Magazine’s editors picked the winner for the said award.

The executive appointments are as follows:

With the recent retirement of Bob Pitts, administrative services will now report to Tracey Doi, the group vice president & CFO.

Chris Hostetter, vice president of advanced product strategy and product planning, is promoted to group vice president of advanced product strategy and product planning. Hostetter continues to report to Dave Danzer, group vice president, corporate strategy and product planning.

Randy Pflughaupt, vice president of marketing, is promoted to group vice president of marketing, Toyota Division. Pflughaupt continues to report to Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division.

Bill Fay, vice president of sales, is promoted to group vice president, sales administration, replacing Al Cabito. A distinguished 36-year veteran of Toyota, Cabito elected to retire, effective January 2008. Fay reports to Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations.

Crossover Leads The Way For Ford

The price of petroleum fuel is on the rise and consumers are looking for vehicles which are fuel efficient. But it cannot be denied that Americans love roomy cars. Thus, automakers came up with the idea of creating a vehicle that is large enough to be considered as an SUV in its own right, but has the fuel efficiency and the handling dynamics of a small car. The result is the crossover.

Ford is one automaker which has invested heavily in the development of crossover utility vehicles. And their investment is now reaping them success as the automaker sets the highest sales increase for crossover utility vehicles for the year 2007 at 62 percent increase.

According to The Auto Channel:

Ford, Mercury and Lincoln crossover utility vehicles paced the industry's fastest-growing segment with a gain of 62 percent in 2007; Ford Edge challenged entrenched foreign models for supremacy among mid- size crossovers.
Lincoln posts 9 percent increase in 2007, owing to new MKX crossover and higher sales for MKZ sedan.
New Ford Focus up 3 percent in December (9 percent at retail).
Ford's F-Series truck was America's best-selling truck in 2007 - the 31st year in a row.
Ford's 2007 sales totaled 2.57 million, down 12 percent compared with 2006; more than two-thirds of the decline reflected discontinued models.

Jim Farley, Ford's group vice president for Marketing and Communications had this to say: "Ford Edge is a great example of our plan to build products people really want to buy. Demand is growing at a fast pace beyond the nation's heartland, our traditional region of strength."

Crossover utility vehicle sales for 2007 being very high, Ford is hoping to continue their success this year. Farley said: "We are restructuring our business to be profitable at lower demand and changed mix and accelerating the development of new products people want to buy. We have more work to do to reach our ultimate goal - profitable growth for all. But we have made progress in a short amount of time in several key areas."

1. Ford Focus ZX3
The Focus is one of my favorite small cars. Designed in Europe, it's roomy, cheap to run and a lot of fun to drive. The sporty ZX3 3-door hatchback will probably have the most appeal for young folks; it's good looking, easy to park, and has plenty of room in the back seat to haul friends.

2. Honda Civic
The Civic is easy to drive, extremely fuel efficient, will last forever if well cared for, and boasts an admirable commitment to safety: Antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags are standard on all models.

3. Honda Fit
When I was in college, small Honda Civic hatchbacks were the cars to have. Today the Civic has moved on to bigger and better things, and the hatchbacks are gone; they have been replaced (in spirit, that is) by the Fit.

4. Kia Optima
Not all students are single teens; many have families of their own. For them, the Kia Optima is a great choice; it has all the room and amenities of mainstream Japanese sedans, but it's significantly cheaper to buy and run.

5. Mazda 3
The Mazda 3 is cool to look at, great to drive, and available in both sedan and mini-wagon body styles. It has all the reliability you'd expect from a Japanese car with a bit more pizzazz.

6. Nissan Versa
Several excellent subcompacts have hit the market recently, and the Nissan Versa is one of my favorites for two reasons: Lots of space and lots of value. The former comes in handy for hauling a semester's worth of stuff to school (as does the fact that the Versa is available as both a hatchback and a sedan) as well as for hauling friends to off-campus excursions.

7. Pontiac G5
The G5 coupe is mechanically identical to the Chevrolet Cobalt, but its unique sheetmetal gives it a smidge more style. The G5 is inexpensive to buy, inexpensive to run, and is an easy car to drive thanks largely to its simple, distraction-free interior. Side airbags are available as an option; don't buy a G5 without them.

8. Subaru Impreza 2.5i
The Subaru Impreza 2.5i is the only car in its class to offer standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) -- an important and oft-overlooked safety feature that not only offers great foul-weather handling (a boon for kids raised in the sun belt going to school in the rust belt) but also helps keep the car on course in a panic swerve when the roads are dry.

9. Suzuki SX4
Suzuki's pint-sized SX4 is built in Japan, yet it offers a value-for-money equation similar to its Korean rivals. Audi, the premium arm of the Volkswagen group, will be introducing an avalanche of new vehicles that is unprecedented in the company's long and storied history. Excited?

Not only will Audi’s entire line be redesigned or refreshed through 2012, but it is planning to fill in a number of perceived gaps in its product portfolio with a variety of intriguing new models, from an all-new A1 minicar to a pricey R8 Targa, said Edmunds.com.

So what are the forthcoming awesome cars from the automaker?

Inside Line has gathered the following chronology and details on the company's impending introductions.

A1: The all-new minicar, based on VW's MQB transverse front-drive global platform, goes into production in late 2009. It will be based loosely on the Audi Metroproject Quattro concept that was revealed in late October at the Tokyo auto show and will be offered in three- and five-door hatchback styles. An A1 Cabrio will follow in fall 2011.

A3: Audi has just released the first official images of the new A3 Cabrio that goes on sale in Europe next spring. The A3 hatchback receives a modest face-lift at midyear, with a full redesign slated for fall 2010. It will share the MQB platform with the A1.

A4: The A4 sedan was redesigned several months ago. A new A4 wagon rolls out in spring. A midcycle face-lift is slated for early 2012.

A5: The recently released A5 coupe will be joined in early 2009 by an A5 Cabrio and in fall 2009 by an A5 Sportback. A high-performance RS5 is also in the pipeline for spring 2009.

A6: The next-generation A6 sedan isn't due until early 2011, followed by a redesigned A6 Avant in spring 2011.

A7: The all-new luxury four-door coupe — Audi's answer to the Mercedes-Benz CLS — debuts in fall 2009; a preview concept could be shown in New York next spring. Audi plans to add an A7 Cabrio in early 2010. Underpinnings will be shared with the A6.

A8: A full redesign of the A8 flagship sedan is slated for mid-2010.

TT: Two new performance editions are scheduled in the near future: a TT-S in fall 2008 and a 350-horsepower TT-RS in fall 2009. The TT-S will be previewed in January at the Detroit auto show.

R8: A high-performance V10 edition, sharing its power plant with the Lamborghini Gallardo, arrives next fall, followed in 2009 by a new R8 Targa with a removable roof.

Q3: Audi's smallest crossover vehicle is penciled in for mid-2009. A hybrid variant could follow in 2012.

Q5: The new midsize, five-passenger Q5 will reach dealers in mid-2008, followed by a Q5 Hybrid in early 2010. A Porsche companion will be badged Roxster.

China Unleashes Its Own Hybrid Car

China's state-owned Chang'an Automobile group has started making its own hybrid cars, the first such move by a Chinese automaker, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Mass production of the Chinese-designed car, which consumes 20 percent less fuel than ordinary cars of the same size, was launched after six years of research and development, Xinhua said.

"This shows Chinese automakers have grasped the core technology of making hybrid cars," the report said, adding that Chang'an will donate 10 such vehicles for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Chang'an group, a Chinese partner of Ford Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp. The listed arm, based in the southwestern city of Chongqing, is also China's largest mini-van maker.

Demand for hybrid cars is negligible in China, where petrol is subsidized and the impact of polluting factories on local neighborhoods is more the focus of environmentalists than larger issues such as global warming, according to Reuters.

Fuel economy figures little in consumers' purchasing decisions in China. Hybrid cars are also expensive since the government offers buyers no incentives to purchase them.

Toyota Motor Corp. was the first carmaker to build hybrid cars in China. General Motors Corp said last month it would begin producing a hybrid car in China from next year, in time for the Beijing Olympics in August.

Japan's Nikkei said the hybrid vehicle made by Chang'an is based on a 2-liter compact wagon that will be able to travel 100 kilometers (62 miles) on 6.8 liters of gasoline, and it will be officially released next year.

The new hybrid is close in size to Toyota's Prius hybrid, which the Japanese automaker has assembled and sold in China since late 2005, the Nikkei said.

Chinese sales of the Toyota hybrid were down 86 percent in the first 10 months of 2007 from the same period a year earlier to 299 units, as the vehicle's 300,000 yuan ($40,700) price tag dampened its popularity, it said.

Changan's new offering will cost around 150,000 yuan, roughly 20,000 yuan more than the base vehicle but just half as much as the Prius, the Nikkei said.

NAIAS To Positively Impact Michigan Economy

New Testing Ground For Mazda

Japanese automaker Mazda recently announced that they have just completed the expansion of their Mine Proving Ground. No, they do not have a facility to test if their vehicles can withstand mines. It is called Mine proving Ground because it is located in Mine City, Yamauchi Prefecture in western Japan. The test ground was expanded so that they can better test their vehicles before they are mass produced and distributed around the world.

The Auto Channel reported that with the expansion, the Mine Proving Ground now has a skid pad. This will be used to test how good can a vehicle turn at a high speed. With the use of these tests, Mazda can develop even nimbler cars than what they have today. The testing ground also has a free flat course where the top speed of vehicles will be put to the test. A winding track is also added to the facility which will of course be used to determine how nimble Mazda cars are.

Among those present at the opening of the testing grounds are the mayor of Mine City, Mazda's senior executive officer in charge of R&D, Seita Kanai, and other Mazda officials.

Seita Kanai had this to say at the ceremony: "By completing these enhancements to the Mine Proving Ground we are now able to conduct more comprehensive testing to further improve the performance and safety levels of our vehicles. I am confident this will help us to enhance the desirability of Mazda’s cars. As we move forward, Mazda aims to harmonize driving pleasure with environmental and safety features and develop Zoom-Zoom car manufacturing as part of our efforts for a sustainable future. More Recalls For Ford

Another famous car maker is set to recall a huge number of 1.2 million cars because of faulty car parts.

Before, we received news that Ford is going to recall a huge number of cars and now another recall of 1.2 million Ford trucks would have to be done because of the presence of faulty engine sensors that can be a cause for the diesel motor to suddenly stall which can lead to accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration administers the recall and they posted the letter on their official website. The recall involves a huge amount of trucks made between 1997 and 2003 which includes F-Super Duty pickups, Excursion SUV and E-series vans. These following affected models all wear the 7.3 liter diesel engine.

The letter mentioned the effect of the faulty sensor to the trucks. The faulty engine stops the vehicle which causes some accidents. Ford reported 14 incidents of car accidents in connected with the installed engine. The trucks lost control because of it. Before the month ends, Ford will begin notifying customers to bring in their trucks for free repair.

So You Think New Cars Are Green…

These past few months, we are bombarded with overwhelming releases about cars going green. This is why enthusiasts think the hottest new cars are green.

But actually, they aren’t. Well, literally speaking. Again, you might say if isn’t green it must be silver. Yes, silver is the longest-running most popular color among cars. The reign is for an unprecedented 7 years!

Unfortunately, its reign has to end. Auto industry’s dominant color in the palette has to change in favor of… white.

"We're not surprised to see a proliferation of white/white pearl," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute and author of "Color: Messages and Meanings, said in DuPont's entertaining Global Automotive Color Popularity Report. "It follows a global trend... where we're seeing a return to white as a clarifying agent before change, a color of purity and minimalism."

Consumers haven't decided on the Next Big Thing that is. DuPont said its research during the past five decades has shown white usually emerges as a favorite for a few a year or two between significant changes in market trends.

White is tops among new-car buyers in North America, Mexico and Japan, and Europeans still love black cars. But from a global perspective, the trend is shifting away from silver toward gray. We're not sure why - aside from the Audi TT, has a car ever looked good in gray?

Silver gained popularity because it represented newness in the late 1990s and came to be associated with safety after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, said Karen Surcina, color marketing manager at DuPont. White, on the other hand, is pleasing to look at and allows consumers to take a breather before moving on to more vibrant colors.

To get a sense of what might be hot, designers - often called "coatings designers" in the paint biz - check out the latest trends in fashion, home decor and furniture design, and they must look several years into the future. The seers at BASF looked into their crystal ball last year to come up with their "Three- to Six-Year Color Trend Forecast."

Car buyers ... will opt for striking, mixed colors that defy the definition of classic colors. New trend-setting colors will no longer fit traditional descriptions like green, blue or gray, requiring instead names that reflect exotic combinations of colors and effects, such as 'petrol-gray' and 'greige,' a combination of gray and beige.

BASF says:

Silver will "evolve in small and subtle tonal steps" toward more colorful shades and be complemented by other metallic colors like gold and platinum. Red will grow more popular, with buyers looking for "purity, depth and sporty effects" but also being drawn to "more fashionable tints in the coral range." Saturated pastels - whatever those are - "will become a staple in the industry," with "fresh-water blue and blue-greens approaching turquoise will keep growing in popularity."

Paint technologies of the future will offer a broader sensual experience than just a visual one. Matte and 'soft touch' effects will provide a tactile experience ...

But of course, expect the classic combinations to remain. Ferrari is gorgeous in red, Lamborghini in orange, and Lotus Elise in yellow.

Brawn Over Brains? Or The Other Way Around?

Which do you prefer – a two-seater or a gas-guzzler SUV? Do you like brawn over brains?

Daimler AG is poised to offer its 1,800-pound Smart ForTwo for sale in the United States next month. But the German automaker said the orders of the much-anticipated car have gone beyond the production for next year. Is that a good sign or a bad omen?

Daimler Chairman and CEO Dieter Zetsche said Tuesday that more than 30,000 Americans have paid a $99 deposit to buy one of the 1,800-pound two-seat vehicles that get 40 miles per gallon on the highway. The automaker expects to convert 90 percent of those deposits to sales.

"We were totally amazed by the kind of reaction we got," Zetsche said at a breakfast with reporters. "We will not be able to meet the demands here next year."

Smart USA President David Schembri said the company has seen strong interest in Michigan. Over 1,000 Michiganians have paid deposits. The figure makes Michigan one of the top 10 for Smart.

He said the reason for driving a small car alone around town is simple. "If I go out to dinner by myself, I don't order enough food for five people," he said. “A person ordering a vehicle now might be able to get one in late 2008 or 2009, but customers should check with dealerships to see if there are cancellations.”

The Smart ForTwo starts at $11,590 for a very basic model - one without a radio, power steering or air conditioning. The top-of-the-line convertible model with options is $17,440.

David Healy, an auto analyst at Burnham Securities predicted there will be some initial demand for the Smart, but questioned how much sales would grow in the next few years, as other small cars enter the market, including a potential Chinese-made small car. "It's not going to be a financial disaster, but the exchange rate is an issue," Healy said.

Zetsche acknowledged that the expensive euro makes it harder to make a profit on the Smart, which is built in France, but he said the company would make money on the car in the States.

Since the Smart brand debuted in Europe in 1998, the company has sold about 850,000 vehicles. In Canada, the company sold more than 10,000 in the first 2 1/2 years; it expected to sell only 3,000.

"When you just want to go from to A to B with a lot of fun and don't want to carry three persons, Smart gives you everything you can ask for," Zetsche said. He added the only car he personally owns in Europe is a Smart that he uses to go shopping and downtown.

Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, who test drove the Smart car Tuesday, said his group was looking forward to putting the car through its crash tests. Daimler expects the car to receive four star-crash ratings.

Daimler is preparing for the first Smart sales here as a bill is moving through Congress that would hike fuel economy mandates to an industry average of 35 mpg. Zetsche said that Daimler supports the legislation. He said Mercedes-Benz is working to cut the weight of all its models by 5% and will eventually produce hybrid versions of all models.

"We are part of the problem," Zetsche said, noting that passenger cars account globally for 12% of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

According to my source, the acquirement signifies the biggest acquisition of MILES electric vehicles by a government organization. It is projected that these electric vehicles will eradicate a massive amount of greenhouse gas emissions annually in the process.

Toyota adheres to its solid green credo. And to share how far the automaker has gone with its commitment to greener environment, it has earlier reported the progress of its environmental goals.

The automaker issued its first update on progress toward the goals and targets in the company’s new 2011 Environmental Action Plan (EAP). The 2007 North America Environmental Report details Toyota’s efforts in 6 key areas of impact: Environmental Management, Energy and Climate Change, Air Quality, Substances of Concern, Recycling and Improved Resource Use, and Cooperation with Society.

“Toyota’s approach to reducing CO2 is far broader than just a commitment to fuel economy standards,” said Dian Ogilvie, senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America. “We take these targets very seriously. Our environmental reports show a consistent history of achieving -- and in many cases exceeding -- our targets. We believe that the combination of actions we are taking will all play a part in meeting the challenges we all face.”

2007 North American Environmental Report Highlights

Environmental Management: Toyota facilities in North America have Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) in place to check that our activities comply with all federal, state, provincial, territorial and local requirements, as well as our own internal best practices. Our employees receive training in EMS awareness and in related topics.

Toyota works closely with suppliers as they undertake a range of activities, such as building an EMS, eliminating substances of concern, contributing to Toyota’s life-cycle assessment program, reducing CO2 emissions in logistics operations, and reducing packaging.

Toyota, Lexus and Scion dealerships are provided with resources such as online training courses to help manage service-related waste streams and comply with environmental and safety regulatory requirements. We also work with dealerships to promote greener building practices.

Energy & Climate Change: Toyota has reduced its total energy use at our North American manufacturing operations by 22% since FY2002, and has targeted a 27% reduction by 2011 compared to 2002.

At our Fremont, California vehicle assembly plant, painting bumpers with a water-based primer has contributed to a 50% reduction in VOC emissions over the last two years. For the 2007 model year, 90% of all Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars are certified as ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) or better.

Substances of Concern: Toyota is focusing on the phase-out of four heavy metals – mercury, cadmium, lead and hexavalent chrome – from parts and accessories as well as phasing out VOCs in the automobile cabin that can cause the “new car smell.” We are working to be in compliance with voluntary standards regarding methods to reduce VOCs in vehicle cabin interiors set by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) by 2011.

Recycling and Improved Resource Use: Toyota plants in North America have maintained their zero waste-to-landfill status and have exceeded Toyota’s new five-year Environmental Action Plan target by reducing nonsaleable waste (nonhazardous waste plus materials Toyota pays to have recycled) to 28 kg/vehicle.

Toyota introduced soy oil-based polyurethane foam for passenger seats in both the Corolla and the Lexus RX, lowering the amount of petroleum used for production and reducing the carbon footprint the vehicles.

Cooperation with Society: Toyota partners with a variety of organizations, including nonprofits, schools and universities and other businesses, to support programs that help make our world a better place. Corporate philanthropy focuses our community efforts on environmental education and conservation programs, such as the Toyota International Teacher Program which sent teachers to the Galapagos Islands and Costa Rica. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford's Alan Mulally has expressed the automaker's goal towards protecting the environment via green vehicles. The automaker has developed new generation of engines which produces power equal to the output of larger engines. And more recently, the automaker has joined the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment.

"The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment is very pleased to announce that Ford Motor Company has joined SP," said Randy Leslie, Vice President & General Manager, Johnson Controls, Inc. and SP's Chair according to The Auto Channel. "SP continues to grow by providing economic and environmental value to all levels of the automobile supply chain."

What does Angelina Jolie have in common with Eminem and Joseph Stalin as well as 2 out of every 5 Americans between the ages of 26 and 40?

They all have tattoos.

Once used a weapon of rebellion, tattoos have eventually achieved a mainstream status. Matter of fact, tattoos is now used in ad campaigns of both auto and tire manufacturers. But as I see it, the phenomenon carries a noteworthy disadvantage. The more they become accepted in ad campaigns, the more they lose their edginess as an advertising lure.

"There is always an element of rebellion or rite of passage with these things," said David Crockett, assistant professor of marketing at the University of South Carolina. "What makes them interesting is how the marketplace appropriates that rebelliousness and serves that back to you in the form of an energy drink."

As the attention of young consumers gets spread between TV, blogs, online video and other distractions, marketers have resorted to alternative methods to get their interest, said The Canadian Press.

A recent study from the Pew Research Center reflects that 36% of 18-to 25-year-olds have at least one tattoo, while an even higher 40 per cent of 26-to 40-year-olds have at least one.

Marketers use tattoos both as a cultural icon and as the method to deliver the message, said Kevin Lane Keller, a marketing professor at the Tuck business school at Dartmouth College. "It's an attempt to do something different in a fresh way," he said.

Companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. to Volvo Cars are using tattoos in advertising and promotion. This is to captivate the choice of the young.

For 3 years, Goodyear's Dunlop tire unit has offered a set of free tires to anyone who will get the company's flying-D logo tattooed somewhere on their body, and 98 people have taken up the offer, said the report. Some of them are brand loyalists who already own Dunlop tires, while others were tattoo fans who wanted to add to their body art, Dunlop brand marketing manager Janice Consolacion said. One returned for his third Dunlop tattoo this year.

Volvo, a Swedish automaker, recently utilized tattoos in another way. The automaker created a fictional character whose tattoos spelled out the co-ordinates of an undersea location of $50,000 in gold coins and the keys to a new car. Linda Gangeri, national advertising manager of Volvo Cars of North America, said the tattoo man was a way to get people to think differently about the Volvo brand.

Nathan Lin, a tattoo artist and organizer of the annual Boston Tattoo Convention, said the event's sponsors reflect the shifting demographics of tattoo culture in the U.S. This year, it was Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion brand and Anheuser Busch Cos.' Budweiser. Next year's convention has received sponsorship interest from Internet service provider NetZero among other corporate names, he added.

Once corporations use tattoos, it's clear they have lost some of their edginess, Crockett said. "You've got this constant game of cat and mouse, of youth culture and these companies. That lifecycle just gets shorter and shorter and shorter," he said.

"I would certainly say it has lost most of its social stigma," noted Vince Hemingson, a writer and documentary filmmaker who runs the Vanishing Tattoo website.

For music lovers, there's iPod connectivity. General Motors offers vehicles which allow iPod owners to connect their music player to the car audio system. This means that drivers can easily bring their favorite music long with them but also play them on a vehicle's audio system.

Another feature that I think is really cool is a navigation system which reacts to voice commands. The 2008 Acura TL is equipped with a voice-enabled technology with its Voice Recognition Acura navigation System. This gives divers the ability to stay focused on the road while operating the navigation system. Simple voice commands like "Find Nearest Hospital" are recognized by the vehicle's navigation system. According to the automaker, the said navigation system contains more than 1.7 million city and street names on its database.

One feature designed to keep drivers and passengers safe is collision warning and preparation feature. In the 2008 Lexus SL, this system is called the Pre-Collision System or PCS. This system uses sensors mounted in front of the vehicle. If the vehicle's onboard computer senses that collision with the vehicle or building or anything is inevitable, it will tighten the front seat belts and prepares the car's Brake Assist System.

One automaker that you can count on to develop safety feature is Volvo. For its 2008 Volvo C70, the Swedish automaker has developed a parking assistance system. The system uses sensors both in front and at the back of the vehicle. These sensors warns the driver if something is twelve inches from the front or rear bumper.

Don Christy Jr. President and CEO of NADAguides.com has this to say about these features: "These are just a few examples of the technologies currently being offered in today's cars -- in both luxury models and in some entry-level models too. The auto industry is closely related to motorsports. It is not surprising for auto enthusiasts to be addicted to Formula One or NASCAR or the WRC or even MotoGP and 24 Hours of Le Mans. And many look up to these guys and gals who participate in these sports. So it is not surprising that a guy like Colin McRae will be missed by many including myself.

Colin's a driver that will put everything on the line to give his best for the team and his fans. It's his attitude which inspired many to do all the best they can if they want to achieve something. Sadly though, Colin is no longer with us as he passed away along with his son, his son's friend, and one of his long time friends in a helicopter crash on Saturday.

Formula One veteran David Coulthard leads tributes for his compatriot. "He was fearless, flamboyant, blindingly quick in the car," said Coulthard of McRae. "He was very down-to-earth, matter-of-fact that he was so good. He had all the good Scottish traits. I competed in the Race of Champions with him because of my respect for him - I remember him urging me on, telling to get the finger out for Scotland."

"Colin was a remarkable man who wore his heart on this sleeve and was the epitome of a racer; fearless and attacking, yet he remained true to his roots and grounded despite the international fame and recognition that he achieved. The world is a sorrier place without him."

One-time teammate Sebastien Loeb said: "Colin was a hugely talented driver. He was also a down-to-earth, cool and collected person. He loved to joke around and it was a joy and an honour to work alongside him."

Multiple MotoGP World Champion and Colin's friend Valentino Rossi recently won the Portuguese Grand Prix and dedicated his victory to his idol. "Colin McRae was very important for me," said Rossi after the race. "He was one of my great idols when I was young. I always followed his career because he was the Kevin Schwantz (1993 500cc world champion) of rally. Colin gave me a lot of passion for that sport because he made a great show, always with some mistakes but always very fast. Unfortunately, all I can do for him is to dedicate this victory."

Other people close to him have extended their condolences to the bereaved family. It is such a blow to the sport but everyone knows that wherever Colin may be right now, he must be strapped on a seat of a rally car and putting the pedal to the metal as they say.

The New Lambo

Lamborghini: an Italian manufacturer of high performance sports cars. And when I say high performance, it means super fast cars with looks that can wow almost everyone. For years, the Diablo has been the most popular Lamborghini. Even when it was replaced by the Murcielago in the automaker's lineup, the Diablo is, for me, still the most popular Lambo and the best looking one too. But that was before Lamborghini's newest road rocket, the Lamborghini Reventón, came into being.

The said car is so expensive that I'd end up being a slave myself for the rest of my life and still be paying for it in the afterlife. The price tag on the Reventón is a million euros. And that's before taxes. What makes it more special other than the price is that only 20 units of the Reventón will be made. And all of them are already pre-sold to customers around the world.

Words alone cannot describe how the Reventón looks so good. You can just imagine the air flowing up and over the car easily. And in reality, that's how air reacts to the car. That's because 0the Reventón is designed to be the most aerodynamic Lambo ever.

We know that Lamborghini cars are designed to be so extreme that it borders on the extraordinary. Stephan Winkelmann, President and the Chief Executive Officer of Lamborghini describe the Reventón saying: "However, the Reventón is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative. Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murcielago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code."

Although the Murcielago is the canvas for the Reventón, the interior of the new sports car is also new with nothing taken from the Murcielago. On the outside, the new super car is made out of a composite carbon fiber metal. I'm sure you have heard of this stuff. The same material used on aircrafts and Formula One cars as well as the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster. It is light, yet very durable and very stable. The material alone can set you back hundreds of thousands already that's why the 1 million euro price tag is not a surprise anymore.

Just like the Countach, the predecessor of the Diablo and the Murcielago, the Reventón's doors open upwards. It is also equipped with a twelve-cylinder engine. This is the same unit used on the Murcielago LP640. For the Reventón though, the engine was given more oomph. It produces as much as 650 horsepower at 8,000 revs per minute. That power pushes the Reventón from a standstill to a hundred kilometers per hour in just 3.4 seconds.

Volvo Making Cars Safer…Still

Swedish automaker Volvo has always been known as a producer of safe cars. For eighty years now, the automaker has been pelting us with safety features after safety features. With the number of accidents taking lives, each safety feature developed by automakers such as Volvo are really heaven-sent. And just when we though that it will be a long wait for the next breakthrough from Volvo, it announced that it will be using an enhanced safety feature for its vehicles and the whole package will be released before the end of the year.

This feature is the Collision Warning with Auto Brake feature. This feature essentially activates the car's brakes when it senses that the vehicle is on a collision course with a stationary or a moving vehicle in front of it. Ingrid Skogsmo, the director of Volvo's safety center extolled the benefit of this feature, saying: "This can mean the difference between a serious injury and minor consequences for the occupants of both vehicles."

The safety features uses radar and a camera to gauge the distance between the car and the vehicle in front of it. If the distance between the two cars reaches the a certain threshold, the driver will be warned through flashing lights and audible warnings. The onboard computer will also prime the brakes, pushing the brake pads closer to the disc so that the brakes can be applied instantly with just a bit of a pressure on the brake pedal. And when the computer senses a that collision is inevitable, it will apply the brakes thus reducing the impact or totally avoiding a crash.

Jonas Tisell, the technical project manager for Collision Warning with Auto Brake at Volvo Cars, said: "Since the system combines information both from the radar sensor and the camera, it gives such a high confidence level that automatic braking is possible if a collision is imminent. The system is programmed to activate autonomous braking only if both sensors agree that the situation is critical."

Data shows that one out of three accidents involving cars are rear-collisions. In fifty percent of those cases, the driver of a car does not brake at all. This may be due to a driver panicking when caught in a position where they are in danger of hitting the car in front. There are even cases when due to panic, drivers step on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.

The automaker announced that the feature will be available with the Volvo S80, the V70, and the XC70 by the end of this year.

Bigger Asian Auto Markets Soon

According to a recent study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, the Asia Pacific region's auto market will be growing considerably in the near future that it will become the largest market in the world before the turn of the decade. According to the report from J.D. Power and Associates, the Asia Pacific Region's car sales will eclipse that of Europe by 2009.

By that time, it is estimated that 23 million cars and light trucks will be sold in the region compared to the 22.7 million sales prediction for Europe. Surprised? If you have been following news in the auto industry lately, I'm sure you will not be surprised with this prediction.

The Asia Pacific region, if you're not aware is where the second and the third largest auto markets are found. China is the second largest and it is still growing and Japan is the third although it is showing some signs of slowing down. But the growth of the Chinese auto market is enough to offset the decline of the Japanese auto market as this study shows. Aside from these two countries, other markets in the region is still developing and is yet to reach their peak, late bloomers you can call them.

India's auto market is booming as evidenced by the hordes of automakers expanding their operation in the said country. Nissan, General Motors. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, they are all taking stocks in the growing Indian auto market. Aside from that country, the Southeast Asian nations are also becoming a solid market for automakers. Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines may be minor markets but combined, they give automakers a place where they can market their cars as well as low-cost production areas. Korea, the home of Kia and Hyundai is also a growing market that is yet to reach its peak even with two world renowned automakers based in the country. Malaysia may be showing signs of slowing down too just like Japan but with the upcoming deal between Proton and Volkswagen, it will be a good production base for the European automaker.

Jeff Schuster, executive director of forecasting at J.D. said: "Clearly, global sales growth in 2007 and into the future is being driven by strong demand in Asia's two major developing markets, China and India, while sales in other regions are moderate. Steadily rising incomes in the Asia Pacific region will make vehicle ownership possible for more consumers in those areas, and we expect China and India to remain the forces that drive future global growth."

Left or Right, Does it Matter?

Early morning yesterday, while I was sitting on my backyard’s bench, watching over the vehicles passing by, a thought came out of my mind. In the streets of Detroit, even in the entire United States, why do all drivers keep their vehicles on the right lane of the road?

Would it be because most people are right handed, making it convenient to manipulate the gear stick, adjust the radio or wrestle with the earphone of your hand-phone with your right hand, leaving all other tasks of steering on your left hand?

Well, if that is so, then the people in Japan are mostly left handed so what happens then?

The tradition of doing major tasks with the dominant hand leaves out two-thirds of the world’s population believing in several customs, which mostly are practically lacking valid reason and so it goes varying from country to country.

What would be happening if people got the choice on where the driver’s seat is settled? Would it be depending from person to person or would it jsut create more trouble? The worst scenario would be if drivers got the option to run their vehicles either sides - they’d probably be ending lifeless. The world would be very much unruly with this concept - vehicular accidents would be found everywhere. Frightening idea.

Youngsters die due to lack of care, road safety knowledge and enforcement of road rules. Well, that was just an “IF”. It’s good enough that laws have been made to protect the people and as much as possible prevent road accidents.

Being left- or right-handed doesn’t actually matter in driving, as long as you secure yourself with efficient application of safety precautions. This includes compliance in maintaining individual auto parts, preventing yourself from getting trapped in the middle of a street. Just like what happened to me, in my newbie era as a driver, not being conscious on checking over the parts of my vehicle. It was involving my Hyundai Scoupe radiator. I wasn’t able to check on it before I left home, so my engine suddenly overheated. It served as a lesson learned. Then, I’ve set simple rules for myself to prevent the-likes from happening. I even browsed the web for some basic tips.

Just to share, I also found this Traffic Safety Tips, discussing on the HOW’s and WHY’s on managing turn signals, passing safely, slow moving vehicles, allowing some space, right on red, the right of way, and traffic control signs and signals. They are basic, but still, some people fail to apply it. We know accidents would be greatly reduced, if people would be more careful, conscious and be complying with the rules.

A Hybrid Porsche

We all know that German automaker Porsche is the maker of world renowned cars such as the 911. We also know that the carmaker will keep on churning out precision engineered cars designed not only to break the necks of onlookers but also to upstage any other car in a street race. Then came the Cayenne.

The Cayenne is not actually a bad thing - it just don’t fit right with Porsche’s image. Initial reaction to the SUV from consumers who have tried it though is very positive. For those interested in consumer reviews of the Cayenne, the 2006 model year version, you can check out this site. Here’s a sampler for you:

And then, the automaker once again surprised many by announcing that they will be producing a hybrid version of the SUV. Yup! You read that right, a hybrid Porsche is in the works. Well, for me, whether Porsche has an SUV on its lineup or not, it is still the maker of high performance cars that I’ve come to admire. And as to the presence of a hybrid version of the Cayenne? It’s all good. I mean, the extra power provided by the electric motor can only give the Cayenne better acceleration. Look at the Accord Hybrid - it may not have over-the-roof gas mileage but its performance is better than conventional Accords.

Furthermore, a hybrid SUV is no longer a rarity, with the Ford Escape Hybrid already making believers out of so many consumers, I really think that it is about time that Porsche came out with this hybrid Cayenne. Will I buy one? That depends if I can afford one actually. LOL. Kidding aside though, if I can afford it, why not? I mean it has the good capabilities of an SUV, the size, the off-road driving capability, and now something that I can show to Prius owners that I am also doing something for the environment, but unlike them, I’m doing it with style. LOL.

And guess what? Toyota and GM, the top giant automakers in the planet, emerged victorious during the said set of awards!

Eight Toyota cars scored high in their respective segments which include the ultimate Motorist Choice of The Year winner - the Lexus LS! On the other hand, GM trailed Toyota in second place with five GM car winners on their respective segments which include the Cadillac DTS and the GMC Yukon XL.

“This year’s roster of winners earned their place by challenging vehicles often recognized for their quality and value,” said James Bell, the publisher of IntelliChoice.com. “While Japanese manufacturers garnered a majority of the 25 vehicle segments, the 2007 Cadillac DTS checked in as the top overall large luxury car. GM also showed well by scoring top honors in both the large light-duty and heavy-duty truck segments with the Chevrolet Silverado.”

“Those who monitor the industry closely are probably not surprised by the performance of the Cadillac DTS,” said George Peterson, the president of AutoPacific. “Across all segments, the DTS came in a close second to the overall winner Lexus LS, and it was the top ranked vehicle overall in AutoPacific’s recently announced Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. It’s a car that can definitely challenge the other elite brands.”

Non-Diesel Diesel Engines?

German automaker Mercedes-Benz is known for being the engine supplier of Formula One team McLaren. But aside from that, the company is also known for their great looking cars made for performance and aesthetics. And then, there’s diesel technology. Although not a maker of trucks and buses, the German automaker is making headway in the development of diesel engines, after all, European automakers are creating new generation of diesel engines which are more fuel efficient than gasoline engines.

Recently, the automaker announced that they have developed an engine with the characteristics of a diesel engine but does not run on diesel fuel. Pretty confusing, right? But once you learned about the engine, the DiesOtto as they call it, you would be enlightened.

Although new diesel engines are known to be more efficient and cleaner than gasoline engines, Mercedes-Benz believes that gasoline engines are not as environmentally harmful as we were led to believe by other automakers. And the DiesOtto is concrete proof of that.

The engine, which I believe is named after auto greats Rudolf Diesel and Nicolaus Otto, the former being the inventor of diesel engines and the latter being the one who conceptualized four-stroke engines, is an engine which runs on gasoline but uses the injection characteristics of a diesel engine.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the gasoline, or as they call it, petrol engine will have ‘extremely clean emissions’. Aside from injecting the fuel into the compressed air inside the combustion chamber, the engine will also be turbocharged, and will have variable valve timing thus reducing fuel consumption and increasing power output.

The DiesOtto is said to have an output of 238 horsepower while at the same time consuming only 6 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers. Or in miles, that would be 39.2 miles per gallon. The engine though is not yet being mass produced as the automaker is still making adjustments to the engine.

According to Mercedes-Benz, these are what they need to work on:

Downsizing with fewer cylinders and a smaller displacement
Turbocharging for superior performance
Direct petrol injection as a further fuel economy measure
Controlled auto ignition, a combustion process similar to that of a diesel
Variable valve control
A variable compression ratio leading to even better fuel economy and, depending on customer needs and the type of operation,
A hybrid module with an integrated starter/generator, which makes the drive unit even more economical

Although not yet being mass produced, this engine shows the future for gasoline engines. That means that not only diesel and hybrid powertrain technologies are being developed but gasoline or petrol engines as well.

"These examples, along with hundreds of others we all see on a regular basis, highlight how important of an issue distracted driving really is. The steel safety cage in a car is the last line of defense for vehicle occupants in the event of a crash, but we as an industry advocate safe, non-aggressive driving and an extra dose of common sense to avoid a crash from even occurring. Everyday we are hearing about more and more accidents caused by distracted driving, so it's time that this issue becomes front and center in our everyday conversations," explained Bill Heenan, the president of the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) group.

Pull over somewhere safe if you need to make an urgent call, check a message, deal with the kids, eat or drink, etc.
Change your cell phone voicemail message to let callers know that you may be driving and you will call them back later.
Tell everyone that for safety reasons, you no longer take calls while driving. If you call someone and find out that they are driving, let them go and call them later.
Turn off your cell phone and PDA when you get into your car. Lock it in the trunk if it helps!

Car Insurance Rates Continue to Drop

How’s auto insurance doing? Flourishing or failing?

Insurance.com, America’s biggest online auto insurance agency, in its most recent report, said that car insurance rates continue to decrease depending on the geographical location. The company’s "2007 Mid-Year Auto Insurance Pricing Report" shows a national decline in annual premiums of 1% or approximately $20 so far this 2007.

Based upon data drawn from the lowest average car insurance rates viewed by almost 700,000 consumers in the first half of 2007, the Mid-Year Report gives interesting insights into state-specific pricing trends, as well as the general trends of insurance premiums.

“So far in 2007, we have seen a 1% decrease in car insurance rates from 2006,” says David Roush, the CEO of Insurance.com. “The national average premium in 2006 was $1,916, in 2007 that average has dropped to $1,896 - a modest decline but a nice reprieve considering the rising cost of gas.”

"Prices still vary considerably on a case-by-case basis, so it's essential to compare rates before making a purchase. Insurance.com makes it easy for consumers to compare rates and buy the policy that's right for them, either online or over the phone with knowledgeable licensed agents," the CEO concluded.

Green cars have been the talk of the town lately and we seldom talk about muscle cars or maybe even VW Bug parts and accessories. This coming 23rd day of July, the Plug-In Hybrid Coalition of the Carolinas will get a delivery of its first plug-in hybrid! This hybrid prototype features a combination of the latest technology packed with bigger batteries and is capable of charging itself into a standard outlet. With this kind of capabilities, it will absolutely result in a car attaining 100 miles per gallon for city driving while decreasing emissions 30 percent to 60 percent. The Plug-In Hybrid Coalition of the Carolinas is established by a herd of business, civic, environmental leaders who encourage automakers to set plug-in hybrid technology into production. Since 2004, an estimated 50 plug-in hybrid models have been deployed. This includes two plug-in hybrid school buses in Raleigh Charlotte, North Carolina. Toyota and GM, two of the top automakers today, have recommended commercial accessibility of the vehicles in 2010.

"We are thrilled to show technology exists that will significantly improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gases, and lessen our dependence on foreign oil," noted Jim Poch, the Executive Director of the Coalition. Poch added that when bio-fuels such as ethanol are combined with plug-in hybrid technology, the use of foreign oil is virtually eliminated.

"Government studies have shown our nation has enough off-peak electricity to power 84 percent of the nation's passenger and light duty truck fleet. Redesigned New Breeds of VW Cars

You’ll be surprised if you happen to see one of the newest redesigned models from the Volkswagen range of cars. It is definitely a bold move for the company as they unveiled the new looks for 2008.

VW has made a number of changes and most of these are just minor ones such as trim level naming switches and color removal. The major changes were done underneath the body. Take for example the additional power for the 2.5-liter five cylinder engine which is being used by the Jetta and the Rabbit. Twenty horsepower were added and this produces 177 ft-lb of torque.

A new model for the Beetle is expected in 2009 with additional 20 horses beneath the hood. There was a new driving force, courtesy of a brand-new software and a new intake to improvise the extra breathing capacity. Here are the additional and changes done to some of the 2008 VW models:

A Sweet Chat With Ian Cameron of Rolls-Royce

Have you ever wondered who’s behind Rolls-Royce’s success for the past productive years of the company? Since the legendary and the most celebrated brand was bought by BMW in 1998, this man carried Rolls-Royce to success, and he’s no other than Ian Cameron, Rolls-Royce’s Design Manager. But before being a 15-year BMW-Group veteran, he first joined and worked with Range Rover and he also, before that, worked on the Z8 Roadster. Talk about great experience, huh?

The automobilemag.com has provided a sweet and fun conversation with Rolls-Royce Design Manager Ian Cameron. Let’s have a peek on the short interview organized by automobilemag.com.

How does this Drophead Coupe's design differ from the four-door Phantom's?
Ian Cameron (IC) : We know the customer for this car will be quite different. The Phantom is a much more formal sort of beast. With this car, the message of performance is much clearer. I think the design, the form, the streamlining, the way the grille is integrated into the body and the subtle haunches over the rear wheels separate it from the Phantom. This all suggests that you will enjoy the elements of this car in a unique Rolls Royce way. Rolls Royce has always had an open car in its model line, and it's very nice to have that back.

Do these two cars represent the design vision for future Rolls Royce cars?
IC: This is certainly one part of the future of Rolls Royce, but not the only one. We have announced a smaller car that will be a different set of products, but it will be a Rolls Royce.

Heritage plays a critically important role in the design of any Rolls Royce.
IC: Absolutely. The coach doors, for example. This is the most elegant way to get in and out of a car, and it is true to the coachbuilders of the '30s. Also, in the materials we've used, we've been inspired by Americas Cup J-Class yachts of the 1930s. That was the closest you could get to the elements of speed and performance, and Rolls Royce has always been interested in delivering performance and driving enjoyment. Also the whole way this car is tuned. This is the Phantom platform, but we've taken 10 inches out of the wheelbase to improve its agility, and the suspension geometry has been changed to optimize its handling.

How do you feel about the responsibility of being the Rolls Royce designer?
IC: It is something that keeps you awake at night, because the challenge and the excitement of trying to produce the best car in the world is very humbling. At least that makes the job very clear.

Well, I just remembered that song since I’ve encountered news in the net that features not actually anything about the Volvo alternator that I’m looking for. Rather, it talks about simple tips on how to have greener cars.

For the 2008 model year, the company will offer the redesigned Saab 9-3 range which boasts of a concept car styling. That is because the new Saab 9-3 possesses styling cues direct from the Saab Aero X Concept.

According to its manufacturer, they strived to offer a car with a better handling, performance and safety. The new Saab 9-3 boasts the “clamshell” hood design which was first used in the Aero X Concept.

Which Car Tops the Quality List?

Well, I should say job well done to the Hyundai Motors Corporation as three of their world class car models topped the 2007 Total Quality Survey which was done by Strategic Vision just recently. Which of Hyundai car models tops the quality list?

Name it: the Entourage, the Santa Fe as well as the Azera. These join the list of the quality car list. The survey asked almost 27,000 motorists about the industry’s 2007 set of models and the survey was done starting last September up to November 2006. These respondents were asked about the quality problems met as well as the quality maintenance of these vehicles. They were also asked about the things that had gone wrong and their perceived quality of whether they got what they deserve for the money that they spent for these car models.

The super famous Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation was able to grab the Things-Gone-Wrong category but failed on the perceived quality. The company says that it was attributed by the gradual change of preference by the car buyers. Strategic Vision was a little hesitant to post this new list because some brands and car models that are mentioned on the poll don’t correspond to the reliability survey. But because most of the respondents think the data is worth publishing, the group decided to post it.

Cars and Trucks in Transformers the Movie

Transformers the movie is now the most anticipated motion picture after the number one box office hit Spider-Man 3 premiered this May. The Transformers will be out in theatres this coming July so you better get your ticket reservations for the best seats in the house because it’s going to be an action-packed experience with the Autobots and the Decepticons!

From what I saw on the Transformers trailer, cars and trucks are the alternates of some lead robot characters. Take for example Optimus Prime which is a big truck alternate and Bumblebee who is a Chevrolet Camaro. I think there is a Hummer truck and a Pontiac Solstice too. Anyway, the plot of the movie shows the battle of two dueling aliens - the Decepticons and Autobots. The very unfortunate thing for the earthlings is that the two clashing alien robots found their battleground… and it is here on earth! How nerve-cracking is that?!

But the Autobots, which are the “good guys”, are here to stay to protect humankind from destruction brought about by Megatron and his league of Decepticons here on our planet.

In the trailer, the yellow Chevrolet Camaro is the first car of the kid (I forgot his name) that was a present from his dad. And it turned out to be one of the Autobots. Soon as the kid knew he was keeping a robot in his garage, it changes his life for good and, of course, every human being in the planet also is affected by that. But luckily, Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots gave their very best to protect the earth from the evil hands of the Decepticons. Isn’t that sweet and sensitive from a robot!

Bumblebee was actually a Volkswagen Beetle in the animated movie during the 80s while Optimus Prime is the same big truck. The cars shown in the movie was so awesome especially when they transform into robots - and that’s the coolest thing from the Transformers. It makes me feel like a child again! I will never miss this movie for the world and I’ll be waiting for July whatever happens.
